Charles Kwablan Akonnor nicknamed "CK", ( born 12 March, 1974) is a Ghanaian professional football coach and former player, who is the current coach of the Ghana national team (Black Stars).

He is considered one of the brightest young coaches with a pool of experience in the local front. He holds a record of coaching all the top clubs in the Ghana premier league at the age of 45.

CK Akonnor played as an attacking midfielder, who usually played as a supporting striker or a playmaker role. He spent majority of his career in the German Bundesliga with Fortuna Koln and Vfl Wolfsburg.

He started his youth career with Young Hearts Team and Okwawu United before starting a professional football life with Obuasi Goldfields ( Ashanti Gold) . He spent seven seasons playing locally of which he earned callups into the various national teams ( He played in all levels of the national team).

He made 427 appearance over 19 years of playing active football for seven professional clubs scoring 64 goals. As mentioned he spent most of his career with Fortuna Koln (6 seasons, 26 goals) but made his name with Vfl Wolfsburg ( 5 seasons, 13 goals) and became a club captain (2001-2002 season).

CK Akonnor had always been a born leader, and this had showed in the various level of his career, Egypt 1992 U-20/ Australia 1993 FIFA U-20,captained the U-23 (Atlanta 96) before also becoming the captain of the Black stars. He made 51 appearances thereafter and scored 12 goals. He made four appearances at the Africa Cup of nations ( 94,96,98,2000) and was named among CAF XI best players in 1998.

Managerial Career

CK has managed five different clubs within the Ghana premier league. His first taste of such was with Sekondi Eleven Wise (2009-2010) as head coach and later became the Director of Sports (2010-2012). His success lead him to a top job with Accra Hearts of Oak (2012 season). His progress was quick and moved on to Dreams FC (2013-2015).

After a successful string of results which saw Dreams gaining promotion to the Ghana premier league and a successful season placing 8th he moved to his former playing club Ashanti Gold SC. His final club side assignment before his national team appointment was with Kumasi Ashanti Kotoko (2018-2019 season).

He became the fourth coach to take Kotoko to the group stage of the CAF organised Inter-Club competition and also first in 15 years to win four home matches in any CAF inter-club competition.

He as well won the NC Special Competition ( is a version of the Premier league) 2019 with Kotoko earning several awards including Best Coach of the season.

He has in total managed 126 matches with 48 wins , 32 draws, 46 loss.

He is currently the national team coach of Ghana (Black Stars) after serving as Assistant for few months. Prior to that he was shortlisted for the Guinea national team job.
