The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has revealed that it is in talks with the government to allow Value Added Tax (VAT) exemptions on gate proceeds as well as the import of sports equipment and other services.

VAT on gate proceeds has been one of the talking points in the past years with football administrators having strong opinions on the matter due to the amount of money they lose after every matchday.

According to General Secretary of the Ghana FA, Prosper Harrison Addo, several engagements are ongoing with the government to acquire tax holiday on some services.

“The GFA also gave updates on its various meetings with government and the proposal sent through the Ministry of Youth and Sports on the stimulus package and various requests such as exemption on VAT on gate proceeds, import duties on soccer equipment e.g. national teams’ jerseys, interest-free loans, etc”, a communique from the GFA revealed on Saturday.

Prosper Harrison Addo added, “The government has been very open and we appreciate their support thus far and we shall continue to engage them until we bring finality to the matter”.
