Newly installed sporting director of AshantiGold SC, Roy Arthur says he is on a mission to restore the club’s old glory days by reviving their academy setup.
Then known as the Ajax Academy, the youth setup of AshGold was the backbone of the highly successful years of the club. The project was jointly run by Ajax Amsterdam and AshGold.
The Obuasi based club produced the talent while Ajax Amsterdam provided the resources and expertise to nurture them.
This wonderful talent factory produced ex and current Ghanaian internationals like Issah Rahman, Shaibu Yakubu, Opoku Agyemang, Mubarak Wakaso, Jonathan Mensah, John Mensah and Augustine Arhinful.
Roy Arthur believes a return to the old ways is pivotal in sustaining the club’s top level status and making it more competitive
He told Atinka FM, “my mission is to revamp Ashgold Academy, we need to produce stars again from our youth team and it is my aim to scout good young footballers, groom them so they become stars at AshantiGold”.
