The Ghana Deaf Football Association (GDFA) has called on the public to disregard a sponsorship proposal making rounds on social media seeking for funds for the deaf team, Black Wonders, to participate in the 4th World Deaf Football Championships CHANGWON 2020 in Korea.

A release issued and signed by the GDFA Interim Management Committee chairman, Mr Christopher Ekpo, said the purported request coming from a group calling itself Ghana Deaf Sports Federation (GDSF) is fake and should be disregarded by the general public.

According to the release, persons from this group through social media and other medium are using the name of GDFA to solicit for funds.

“It is highly unbelievable and unfortunate that people would lose their conscience and close their eyes, and ears to all the happenings in the world with the enemy and a killer virus called COVID-19 and still would think of traveling by using foul means to get a sponsorship.”

“President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in March suspended all sporting events as well as travelling till further notice, and the GDFA as a law abiding body, is strictly adhering to this directive.

“We are by this release notifying the public that we have not mandated anybody to seek for any form of sponsorship whatsoever for the Black Wonders.”

It added that the GDFA appreciated the excellent safety measures instituted by the Government, “and as law abiding citizens, members are following religiously these measures to prevent the spread of the disease, and we want our fellow Ghanaians to also do same.”

“Let’ all adhere to the protocol announced by President Nana Akufo-Addo to protect the nation from the Covid-19 pandemic, and be wary of fake and adulterated information that would create unnecessary fear and panic. Let’s all resort to information from credible sources such as health professionals and government accredited agencies.”

The statement thanked Ghanaians for the immense support for the Association in the past, adding that “together we would survive the Corona pandemic and continue the good working relationship at the appropriate time.”
