Preston North End manager Billy Davies is delighted striker Patrick Agyemang's form has been rewarded with a Ghana call-up.

The 25-year-old hit-man was on stand-by to feature in the African Cup of Nations team, but failed to make the final 23-man squad.

However, Agyemang's impressive form for The Lilywhites this term has earned a call-up for Ghana's upcoming friendly with Mexico in the United States.

Davies is hoping Agyemang can grasp the opportunity with both hands in a bid to enhance his chances of making their World Cup squad this summer.

"We are all delighted for Pat, it is a great for not only him but for the club to have another player with international recognition," Davies told the club's official website.

"The call up is a great opportunity for Pat, hopefully he can do well and force himself into the squad for the World Cup Finals this summer."

Also included in the Ghana squad is Chelsea's Michael Essien, who was forced to withdraw from the ACN in Egypt due to injury.
