1% levy : Tourism Authority to recoup 900,000 cedis in Greater Accra

Deputy CEO in charge of operations at the Ghana Tourism Authority, Ekow Samson, says his outfit is bent on recovering 900,000 cedis in December.

The said amount is the 1% levy expected to be paid by tourism facilities to the authority.

Speaking to the media at the levy enforcement exercise today, the deputy CEO said business operations in the greater Accra region owed the authority over 900,000 cedis hence measures have been put in place to recover them.

Mr Sampson said the amount which will be generated is used for functions that boost tourism sector’s investments.

“That is what we use to fund the training programs that we are embarking on, fund especially the marketing that we are doing,” he said.

The Ghana Tourism Authority in the beginning of December embarked on the one percent tourism levy recovery exercise in the Western region.

According to the tourism authority the said region has businesses defaulting to a tune of GHS489,000.

The Fund, which was established in October 2012 from the 1% levy on the services of tourism facilities including hotels and restaurants, aims to support the development of the industry and ensure the quality of service being provided to meet to defined acceptable standard.
