On Friday, November 9, 2018, twenty-two awards will be given out to key players and contributors of the hospitality industry as organizers of the Guest Experience Masters (GEM) Awards seek to appreciate such individuals and teams for their efforts.

The awards ceremony, which was officially launched at the Labadi Beach Hotel on Monday, would reveal and recognize dynamic individuals and groups who have carved the hospitality industry’s landscape built on exclusive feedback from customers based on their online reviews and peer nomination.

Expert auditors would be tasked with monitoring the voting process to ensure transparency and identify any mishaps.

Amanda Prah, a Hospitality Consultant, who doubles as an organizer of the event, disclosed that customers were given the power to decide who wins what since they are the recipients of the services.

“We realized lots and lots of hotels, restaurants and spas were springing up and we thought that the experiences that we were getting as it is with the existing ones are not at par, as you would get internationally. So we decided to do the awards to give the voice to the people that are actually receiving the services – the guest, customers, clients. So they will be the real judges of these awards,” she explained.

Categories include Hotel Restaurant Menu of the Year, Most Spoiling Spa, Best Family Hotel, Outstanding Street Food, as well as the Outstanding GEM Hotel 2018.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), Akwasi Agyeman applauded organizers of the GEM Awards, emphasizing its relevance in the tourism industry.

According to him, the GEM Awards would help chart a better course for the tourism industry domestically and internationally.

The 2018 GEM Awards will take place at the Omanye Hall at the Labadi Beach Hotel on Friday, November 9, 2018.
