The Africa Centre for Energy Policy (ACEP) has cast doubts over the impact of the Energy Conservation Campaign being waged by the Volta River Authority.
The VRA is counting on the campaign to solve the perennial power crisis as it has been forced to shut down two turbines to save the Akosombo dam.
Samuel Fletcher, Head of the Corporate Communications Unit of VRA, told Starr News Wednesday that some of the measures being put in place to save energy would have drastic impact on consumers.
But Programmes Director for ACEP, Ben Boakye in an interview with Starr News said VRA must rather channel their resources into boosting the generation capacity of the existing plants.
“It’s going to help to encourage people use less when possible, but again if you don’t have the generation capacity, what you need to do is rather to invest that money into bringing on stream more generation.
“I think as a country we are wasting so much money on conservation when our total consumption is just 2000 megawatts of power”.
