Chrysler Jeep Dodge Vehicles Launched

PHC Motors on Wednesday launched the Chrysler Jeep Dodge vehicles in the country after dealing with Chrysler for about five years.

Launching the vehicles, the deputy minister of roads and transport said it is the aim of government to provide safe, efficient, affordable and accessible transport to convey human and material resources.

He said because of this, his ministry is committed to the provision of an integrated well managed and sustainable road infrastructure and service that meet national and international standards.

The deputy minister said as road transport accounts for 97% of passenger traffic, the government, in 2004, provided a total of ¢905 billion from the road fund and ¢535 billion for rehabilitation, maintenance and safety of all roads in Ghana.

The Deputy Minister said this has made road conditions improve nationally from 27% in 2001 to 36% in 2004.

He said records from DVLA indicate that 417,000 out of 615,000 vehicles were tested and issued road worthy certificates and called on DVLA to improve upon its efficiency in terms of testing. He commended PHC for bringing Chrysler to Ghana.

The Managing Director of PHC, Mr. Paul Kwabena Pepera said for the previous two and half days, Chrysler had conducted an intensive product training course in Accra for dealers in West Africa. He said this is the third largest manufacturer of automobile in America and fifth in the world.

Noting that one of the key reasons Chrysler decided to appoint PHC Motors as its official dealer in Ghana was its history of after sales service and close attention to customer care, he said they have very good facilities in Accra, Kumasi and Tamale. "We will extend our services to Takoradi," he added.

On his part, the Deputy Chief Mission of the American Embassy, Mr. Linea said the US government is impressed about the economic exploits of Ghana.

According to him, the strong economic growth, strong cocoa growth and high tax revenue have led to a steady growth in the demand for US automobile and said this is good for the economy of Ghana.

The Director of DaimlerChrysler Overseas/ Chrysler Jeep Dodge, Mr. Mike Coon said they launched seven new vehicles last year and nine new ones would be launched in the next two years.

The senior minister, Hon. JH Mensah had the first feel of the Dodge Durango.
