Work has resumed on land clearing for the establishment of a component of the Domunli Gas Processing Project at Domunlizo in the Jomoro District.

This followed payment of compensation by the government on cash crops and other items on the land, mostly coconut and oil palm plantations.

Mr Charles Victor Katah, surveyor of Radan Engineering Limited, engaged on the clearing of the site, made this known in an interview with the Ghana News Agency.

He said land clearing was suspended last year when some farmers threatened workers undertaking the clearing for non-payment of compensation by the government.

Mr Katah said 95 percent of the affected farmers had received compensation and that farmers whose farms were affected during the demarcation of the land for the project had also been paid.

He said the site, which forms about 60 percent of the 22 square miles demarcated for the project, would be used for the construction of Volta River Authority Township, bore-holes and power enclave sub-station and the hydro-survey for mini habour has been done.

Mr Katah said the Domunli Gas Project and its component at Atuabo in the Ellembelle District that would be fed by natural gas from the Jubilee Oil Field would increase national energy production by 5,000 Mega Watts.
