The vice presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has hinted that nurses in the country stand to benefit from a policy that will allow them to import cars with engines less than 1.8 capacity for free if Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is elected as the next president of Ghana.
Addressing a gathering of nursing students at a stakeholder engagement on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at the Korle-Bu NMTC in the Ablekuma South Constituency, Dr. Opoku Prempeh mentioned that nurses play a crucial role in the country’s healthcare sector and must be provided with the needed support.
"Dr. Bawumia, the incoming President of Ghana, will provide free duty on vehicles with engine capacities less than 1.8 for nurses," he said.
NAPO also noted some of the achievements of the NPP government, including restoring their trainee allowance and the implementation of the Agenda 111 project, which will see the construction of health facilities in every district in the country to improve healthcare delivery.
"The NPP recognises and appreciates the key roles that our nurses play in providing healthcare to the people, so we shall also ensure that your lives will be better.
"As I already mentioned, there will be free importation of vehicles with engines less than 1.8 for our dear nurses, among other important interventions to improve your lives and comfort," he stated.
The NPP vice presidential candidate further cautioned that the nursing trainee allowance would be scrapped if the electorate voted for former President John Mahama and the NDC.
"Former President John Mahama and the NDC do not believe in the nursing trainee allowance, so they will scrap it and make life difficult for you. Reject the NDC," he claimed.
In his concluding remarks, Dr. Prempeh called on nurses and nursing trainees in the country to vote for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and all 275 NPP parliamentary candidates in the upcoming general election.
