The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), has in collaboration with the Hotel Catering and Tourism Training Centre (HOTCATT), revived its mobile training modules, to improve the skills of workers of the hospitality industry.
The areas of study include housekeeping, personal hygiene, front office management, food and beverage.
Mr Kwame Gyasi, GTA Volta Regional Manager, who opened the first in the series of courses at Sogakope on Monday, noted that the dynamic nature of the hospitality industry required continual training for workers.
He said there was the need for trained staff to ‘go back to school’ because there is the tendency for them to relapse to the old ways of doing things.
Mr Gyasi said managers and manager-owners of the facilities also needed to avail themselves of the opportunity to train to enable them offer professional tips to new employees.
He said Volta Region had been zoned into four: Sogakope, Denu, Ho and Hohoe, for the training.
Mr Gyasi said there had been many complaints to the GTA offices about the poor quality of services at some facilities in the region, and asked participants at the training to impact services offered at their facilities to others.
Judith Abase, HOTCATT Acting Director, said study areas are compacted, and study-time tailored to meet the capacities and circumstances of the targeted workers, across the country.
She said the training aimed at helping the facilities to meet the expectations of customers.
Mrs Beatrice Archer took the group through lessons in housekeeping.
