GTP resumes production

Tema, Aug 04, GNA - Tex Styles Ghana Limited (TSGL), formerly Ghana Textile Printing (GTP), has resumed production after a six-week shut down.

In early June the factory closed down to maintain its equipment and to enable majority of staff to proceed on their long leave while 60 opted for voluntary lay-off.

Speaking to newsmen on Thursday Mr Kofi E. Bayitse, the Human Resource Director, said even though work has resumed the company has been able to sell only 23 per cent of the huge volume of products in stock.

"Sales are still slow but we re-open because most of the workers have to resume work", he said.

He said the factory has an annual capacity of 20 million yards a year but it has been producing only 09 million yards because of the high cost of the materials and slow sales.

Mr Bayitse attributed the high cost of the finished products to the high cost of imported chemicals, ''Gray baft'' and the influx of cheap textiles.

''Currently, the staff strength stands at 690 and company does not intend to declare them redundant because they have the expertise to man the factory.''
