German Business Delegation Ends Visit To Ghana

A nine member business delegation from the Free State of Saxony in Germany has completed a one week visit to Ghana.

The delegation which included leaders of private construction companies and engineering firms were in the country to hold discussions with Ghanaian firms in the road sector on how to further strengthen existing cooperation between the two countries and also look into possibilities of establishing concrete projects in the road sector in Ghana.

The delegation was in the country at the invitation of the Association of road Contractors of Ghana (ASROC) and the German Development Cooperation (GTZ) road Maintenance Project.

During their stay in Ghana, the German delegation visited some road construction projects being undertaking by members of the ASROC and the offices of selected engineering companies in Winneba, Kumasi and Accra.

They also held discussions with the Managing Directors of these companies on the road sector in Ghana and the possibilities of establishing partnership between the private sectors of both countries.

At a roundtable discussion between the German business delegation and their Ghanaian counterparts, which was also attended by representatives of the European Union, the Ghana Investment Promotion Council (GIPC), and officials of the German Embassy in Accra, the investment climate and conditions as well as the key requirements for doing business in Ghana were thoroughly discussed.

It was generally agreed that contacts between the private sectors of both countries in the road sector should be intensified so that concrete projects can develop out of this partnership in the immediate future.

A member of the German delegation indicated that discussions about establishing a joint venture with Ghanaian engineering firm had reached advance stage.

Another member of the delegation whose company specialises in the recycling of construction materials expressed optimism about the possibilities of entering into some form of partnership with their Ghanaian counterparts.
