Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has announced that Ghana and the Republic of Korea have agreed to begin negotiations on a visa waiver agreement following high-level talks between their leaders.
According to the minister, the decision was reached after a meeting between President John Dramani Mahama and President Lee Jae Myung aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.
Ablakwa disclosed that the foreign ministers of both countries have been tasked to begin and conclude negotiations on the proposed visa waiver arrangement by June this year.

"The two Foreign Ministers have been urged to conclude negotiations by June this year," he wrote on X on March 13, 2026.
The initiative forms part of broader efforts to deepen cooperation and improve mobility between Ghana and South Korea.
The Foreign Affairs Minister assured that the public will be kept informed as discussions progress.
Once finalised, the visa waiver agreement is expected to ease travel between Ghana and South Korea, potentially boosting trade, tourism, and cultural exchanges.
