Chamber of Petroleum Consumers Ghana (COPEC-GH) has adjudged Goil, a Ghanaian owned oil company with the largest Market share, as the overall best oil marketing company (OMC) for 2016.

This award is most likely in place to commend the oil marketing company for maintaining prices of its petroleum product last year and early this year when most OMCs had increased fuel prices.

But GOIL, early 2017 denied claims that its decision to maintain prices of petroleum products for the second pricing window in January 2017, was a deliberate attempt to distort pricing in the petroleum downstream sector.

Some industry observers who backlashed GOIL described the move as ploy with government to defeat the primary purpose of the downstream petroleum price deregulation regime.

Chief Executive Officer of GOIL, Patrick A.K. Akorlie also took the award for the best CEO category, and after which he expressed appreciation to COPEC and its Executive Secretary, Duncan Amoah.

Other winners include, Kwasi Zigah of Petrosol who was awarded best marketing personality for the year and Ebenezer Agyekum-Boateng, best petroleum news reporter.

Shell Ghana won the best corporate brand, best fuel service station and best corporate social initiative while Total Ghana also won the best customer service and best safety brand.

Popular choice Award went to Agapet oil while Petrosol took the fastest growing oil marketing company of the year.

The criteria According to the Executive Secretary of COPEC, Duncan Amoah for some of the categories are industry specific whiles other categories had the public voting across some fuel stations in the country

Mr. Amoah also added that ‘these are purely consumer choice ratings or league based on how well these fuel stations did serve the public over the past year’
