Government buys 1000 boxes of tomatoes from farmers
The government has bought 1,000 boxes of tomatoes and 2,000 bags of onions from farmers in the Asante Akim North district of the Ashanti Region.
The Director of Presidential Initiatives in Agriculture and Agribusiness at the Office of the President, Dr Peter Boamah Otokunor, noted the president directed the purchase of the items to support the government's Feed Ghana programme.
This also comes after concerns that, despite a bumper harvest, a lack of buyers threatened to reduce farmers’ earnings significantly.
In a post shared by Otokunor on September 15, 2025, he noted that; "HE President John Dramani Mahama has directed the purchase of all the 1000 boxes of tomatoes and the 2000 bags of onions produced by smallholders in Asante Akim North for the Senior High Schools in Ashanti Region".

Confirming this at a press briefing, Dr Otokunor said the entire consignment of tomatoes had already been taken up.
He also launched the public registration portal for farmers under the government’s Three Million Coconut Seedlings initiative.
He encouraged farmers interested in the coconut programme to secure land before applying.
“The process is simple and digital. With a mobile phone, tablet, or computer, farmers can complete registration in minutes using basic details such as name, contact, farm location, and acreage. Beneficiaries must have prepared their land before receiving seedlings, to ensure timely planting and maximum success,” he added.
