The Minister of Works and Housing, Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, has noted that sustainable housing is paramount in the government’s agenda.

According to him, the shift to green buildings aligns with global standards in addressing climate change.

He noted that as Ghana’s economy grows, it is pertinent to acknowledge and thoroughly understand how our approach to designing, constructing, and managing buildings and urban spaces fundamentally influences our economy, natural environment, and societal well-being.

He commented as part of his keynote address during the 6th Ghana Green Building Summit 2025 held on April 10, 2025, under the theme “Re-Imagining Buildings and Cities for Economic and Social Prosperity”.

Adjei said, "Under the auspices of the Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources, we are actively integrating green building principles into our national housing strategies and programmes, embedding them within broader urban development initiatives.

The minister said the culture of sustainability must slowly become adapted as the norm instead of being an afterthought or an alternative.

"We aim to nurture an enabling environment where sustainable construction methods become the standard practice rather than an alternative," he said.

As part of his remarks, he emphasised the need to prioritise green financing.

"To effectively achieve the objectives of this commendable initiative, we must also prioritise green finance. We recognise that constrained access to financial resources significantly hinders sustainable construction efforts," he added.
