The Ghana Export Promotion Centre (GEPC) has reported that Ghana earned US$75 million from mango exports in 2024, up from US$62.05 million in 2023.

According to trading statistics released by the centre, the United Kingdom emerged as the largest importer of Ghanaian mangoes, with exports to the UK market rising by 21% between 2020 and 2024.

Globally, the UK imported about US$218.43 million worth of mangoes in 2023 and US$286.95 million in 2024, ranking fourth among world importers after the USA, China, and the Netherlands.

The GEPC report further revealed that Ghana ranked 13th among global mango exporters in 2024. The country placed 2nd as the largest exporter of mangoes to the UK after Brazil, and also ranked 2nd in Africa after Egypt.

While exports to Belgium recorded a 14% decline in quantity and a 16% drop in value between 2020 and 2024, Ghana posted positive growth in both value and quantity in Germany and the Netherlands over the same period.

Exports to Switzerland averaged negative growth during 2020–2024, though a rebound was observed with 17% growth between 2023 and 2024.

Globally, mango imports grew by 3% over the past five years. The major importers in 2024 were the United States (23.2%), China (15.6%), the Netherlands (6.9%), the UK (6.6%), and Germany (6.1%).

The report recommended that Ghana diversify its markets and explore emerging economies with strong growth potential, high import demand, and favourable tariff regimes. Among the new target destinations highlighted were Canada, the UAE, Kazakhstan, and Nigeria.

The report noted that Ghana has a comparative advantage with Nigeria due to their shared geographical location, language affinity, and favourable tariff conditions.
