YEN.com.gh has learnt that Ibrahim Mahama, the brother of former president John Mahama, owes the Ghana Revenue Authority over GHC10 million in unpaid import duties.

Sources close to the presidency tell this medium that Ibrahim issued 44 different dud cheques linked to three bank accounts valued at over GHc10 million to the GRA. The cheques were meant to pay for import duties on heavy-duty vehicles that Ibrahim imported into the country at several periods during his brothers' presidency.

Reports indicate that although the cheques kept bouncing, the GRA kept accepting them apparently because of Ibrahim's status as the president's brother.

With Mahama out of office and replaced with President Nana Akufo-Addo who says he is committed to fighting corruption, the Economic and Financial Crimes Office (EOCO) has taken up the case and has launched an investigation into Ibrahim's conduct.

Reports say his interrogation continues on Thursday and that he has been directed to submit his passport to EOCO.

The move to seize his passport suggests that EOCO is treating the case as a serious crime and will take active measures to prevent Ibrahim from leaving the country during the period of the investigation.
