KMA tackles 45 critical projects

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), says it is making strong progress in its efforts at transforming the socio-economic well-being of people in the metropolis.

Mr. Kojo Bonsu, the Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), said it had successfully completed work on 24 out of the 45 critical development projects started.

Construction works on the rest, he said, were progressing at a steady pace and would soon be ready.

Speaking at a press soiree organized by the KMA at the Rattray Park, Mr. Bonsu said the projects included education infrastructure, health and sanitation facilities, markets and roads.

He announced plans to redevelop the “Komfo Anokye Sword site” at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) into a major tourism centre to attract more visitors to the city.

The assembly, he said was also determined to facelift the ministries area, the post office square and the European Market.

It would work with zeal and passion to change the face of Kumasi - to modernize the city.

The KMA would ensure that the people had access to essential social services and the right conditions created for businesses to thrive.

Mr. Bonsu spoke of a slump in its revenue due to the re-location of traders at the Kejetia Terminal, Atonsu-Agogo, Tafo and Asawase markets, to pave way for the redevelopment of these markets.

He applauded the affected traders for the co-operation and understanding they had shown.
