  Ese Mayors are sitting on gold mines. If one considers the number of billboards and sign posts mounted all over in our cities, the market and transport tolls, the waste dumping ground fees, the property rates, the building permits, the special permits, the property and land leases etc. etc, these authorities make so much money and lots of which are unaccounted for. One may conduct an exercise to confirm that lots of the billboards are not on the KMA and AMA official records, they belong to the big men. These monies are used any how. Even the little that is accounted for are used on projects that are over blown in costs just like our Ghc3.6m bus branding saga.
  Who audits these Methropolitan Assemblies? They are Lods to themselves.

  National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for Ketu North and Chairman of the Finance Committee, James Klutse Avedzi, has told Ghanaians to stop complaining about hikes in fuel prices if they want to see development.
  According to him, there is an alternative to consider if prices of petroleum products are too high.
  
  He said if users of private vehicles can’t afford to buy fuel to service their cars due to the introduction of new taxes, nothing stops them from joining ‘trotro’( public transport) to work if they so desire.
  
  “In UK, not everyone has a car. Many use public transport. Even if we charge 30% on fuel and you can’t pay just park your car. Once you want to use your private car, then you have to pay,” he was quoted as saying on Amansan Radio Tuesday morning.
  
  In December 2015, the government introduced a 27% tax increment on fuel prices following the passage of the Energy Sector Levy Bill into an Act by Parliament.
  
  The intent of the Bill, according to government sources was to restructure, renationalize and consolidate energy sector levies to promote the prudent and efficient utilization of proceeds derived from the levies to facilitate sustainable long term investments in the energy sector.
  
  The increase in margin is one of the biggest in recent times.
  
  This, together with hikes in utility tariffs (electricity and water) has angered majority of Ghanaians, with some threatening to hit the streets to demonstrate against the government.
  
  But the Ketu North legislator believes that there could not be any development in the country if the citizenry refuse to pay taxes imposed on them by the government.
  
  To him, once Ghanaians are yearning for development, it is better for them to shut up and pay the taxes.
  
  
  
  
  
  
  
  MP James Klutse Avedzi is disconnected from his constituents and the common man. If it were not so he would have realized that it is the trotro riders and farmers - the non-vehicle owning populace who are crying loudest about the fuel price hikes, as they are the ones who have the burden of carrying the trickle down price hikes, not the well-to-do middle class who drive their own cars.
  
  This fool is so stupid he does not know what the people are complaining about as with regards to they having to bear the brunt of Mahama's incompetence, corruption and mishandling of the economy.
  
  How can we pay more for petrol today when the world price of oil is below $40 per barrel, as compared to 2007 and 2008 when the world price of oil was $147 per barrel? What the people are being asked to pay is not the fair price of oil, but to make for the gaping hole in the budget created by the stealing of Mahama and his army of thieves. Aboa like that.

  NDC communicator, Eric Ametor Quarmyne has called on Ghanaian car owners to park their cars and ride on bicycles to work if they cannot afford to buy fuel for their cars.
  
  Mr Ametor Quarmyne, who is also a consultant for the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) says those protesting against the current price of petroleum products can show their displeasure by refusing to buy them, rather than attacking persons in authority, whether in government or the opposition.
  
  Ghanaians across the political divide have urged government to review the prices of petroleum products downwards following a massive drop, about 50%, in the world market price of the commodity on the international market.
  
  But government has decreased the prices by just 10%, to the fury of car owners and commuter.
  
  But Mr Ametor Quarmyne thinks those protesting are talking too much.
  
  “…if you think you can’t afford the real cost of fuel, then I think one of the ways of demonstrating an opposition to the increment is to ride bicycles to work…,” he said, he declared on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Monday in response to claims by a private legal practitioner, Baffour Awuah that the Minority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu is sleeping on his job.
  
  Lawyer Awuah argues there is the need for the NPP to replace him [Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu] since compared to other past Minority Leaders in the house, his performance has not been encouraging.
  
  But Ametor Quarmyne, in defense of Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, said the Minority leader was doing a solid job and there is no need for a ‘radical change’ in the leadership of the Minority in parliament.
  
  “What does he want the Minority Leader to do…if he thinks there are other means of showing boycott then he as a Lawyer can decide for example on the increase of petrol prices decide not to buy fuel and ride bicycles to work…,” he replied.
  
  He said the Lawyer and other Ghanaians who think the cost of fuel is too high and unaffordable should park their cars and ride on bicycles. After all, he stated, it was common in the UK.
