Let’s embrace the open and free market policy

The Importers and Exporters Association of Ghana has called on manufacturers and importers to embrace the tenets of the prevailing free market by packaging products that would meet the aspirations of consumers.

According to the Association, Ghana needs to import certain vital commodities to augment what is produced locally hence the need for manufacturers and importers to respect each other and also protect the rights of consumers.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Tema, Mr Samsom A Asaki, Executive Secretary, Importers and Exporters Association of Ghana, said attempts are being made by some cement manufacturers to push out certain cement importers out of the market, which he described as “unfair”.

According to him, the Ghanaian market was open and too big for any manufacturer of cement to satisfy, hence the need for coexistence and mutual respect.

“If the regulatory bodies certify a commodity to be of standard and right quality and due taxes, duties and charges are paid, I don’t see why such commodities cannot be sold on the market.

Competition is good for all of us because it brings out the best in us and also gives the consumer the freedom to choose what is best for his cause.”
