Lufthansa is expanding its operations to West Africa with an additional flight to Accra and Lagos. Effective June 18, 2003, Lufthansa will serve Accra five times weekly and Lagos daily.

Abdulaziz Mangera, Lufthansa’s General Manager for Ghana says Lufthansa is glad to announce this increase in capacity to and from Ghana, given the severe crisis currently facing the airline industry worldwide.

“Lufthansa is steadily expanding its operations to Ghana in accordance with the yearnings of our passengers. First, we increased our frequencies from two to four in November 2001, and now, we are providing a fifth frequency. Our ultimate goal is to provide daily services to and from Ghana,” said Mr. Mangera.

“Our passengers can now exercise more flexibility in their choice of travel day as well as enjoy Lufthansa’s Star Allieance’s outstanding worldwide network of over 700 destinations,” Manager added.

With this additional frequency, Lufthansa’s overall strategy of expanding its network in the sub-region is fully evolving. It shows Lufthansa’s commitment to the service of its Ghanaian passengers despite times of turbulence for most airlines this year.

“More and better airline connections will foster more business and thus contribute to the economic development of Ghana:, he said, expressing his wish for further capacity increase.

The additional Wednesday service will be operated with a brand new four engine Air bus A340. Every Wednesday, Flight 564 departs Frankfurt at 10.45 am and arrives in Accra at 4.50 pm local time. For the return journey, Flight 565 departs Accra at 6.30 mp local time and arrives in Frankfurt at 5.30 am the following day.

West Africa is increasingly becoming an important Lufthansa business region. From two flights weekly for several years, Lufthansa expanded its operations to Ghana in November 2001. With this new frequency, Lufthansa passengers will enjoy the seamless travel offered by the 17-member Star Alliance of which Lufthansa is a founding member which serves 729 destinations in 124 countries. Lufthansa (Ghana) has also been adjudged the best airline of the year by the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIMG) for 2002.

In order to meet its commitment to growth and excellent service, effective June 26, 2003 Lufthansa, Accra will be moving to its new legal office at Meridian House, Ring Road Central, and Accra.
