John Dramani Mahama, the Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has announced that his government will investigate the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government’s Gold-for-Oil policy if voted into power.
Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia introduced the Gold-for-Oil (G4O) policy in 2023 to address Ghana's declining foreign currency reserves and the increasing demand for dollars by oil importers.
But speaking during the launch of the National Democratic Congress’ 2024 Manifesto on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at Winneba in the Central Region, Mahama stated, “We’ll investigate the NPP’s opaque Gold-for-Oil deal and review the gold purchase programme of the Bank of Ghana.”
The manifesto launch, which is under the theme 'Change To Reset Ghana,' is aimed at positioning the party for the December 7 elections.
Former President John Mahama also touched on issues like uncapping the national insurance scheme, revoking teachers’ licensure exams and as well providing free sanitary pads for young girls in school.
Meanwhile, Mahama has also called on Ghanaians to vote for change to put the economy back on a sound footing.
"We cannot fail our mother Ghana; therefore, I urge you all to vote for change on December 7, 2024," he added.
