Accra, Aug. 11, -- Rear Admiral E.O. Owusu-Ansah, Chief of Naval Staff, has called on Army Commanders to pay more attention to the development of sports in their units. They should also use their ingenuity and resourcefulness to renovate sports facilities in their areas of command. Rear Admiral Owusu-Ansah was opening the 19th Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) Sports Festival at the El-Wak Sports Stadium in Accra today. Ghana Armed Forces, the Navy and Airforce, are taking part in the five-day festival of soccer, volleyball, hockey, lawn tennis, table tennis, handball and basketball. Rear Admiral Owusu-Ansah regretted that due to logistic constraints and some organisational problems, the games which are held to unearth talents for the nation, could not come off in 1994 and 1996. The Navy boss said the time has come therefore for the GAF to allow budding sportsmen to enter the GAF to develop their potentials for the benefit of the nation.
