Newmont Ghana outdoors partnership with Ghana Library Authority

Newmont Library Newmont will work with GhLA to refurbish school libraries

Ghana Library Authority (GhLA) has signed a new partnership with mining giant, Newmont Ghana Ltd.

The partnership forms part of Newmont's Corporate Social Responsibility initiative titled: 'Gold for Gold Reading Programme'.

Under the three year partnership, Newmont Ghana would work with GhLA and United Way Ghana to refurbish school libraries and provide resources such as books, e-reading tablets and refurbished PCs, fund GhLA mobile and branch library operations, organize reading clinics and programmes, embark on community outreach programmes and training for librarians and select teachers on promoting reading culture.

Speaking at the short ceremony at the Newmont head office in Accra, Mr Hayford Siaw, Chief Executive(Ag) expressed gratitude to stakeholders and Newmont Ghana for working with Ghana Library Authority to improve literacy outcomes.

“This investment is in line with government’s vision to improve learning outcomes of Ghanaian children through an improved library system. GhLA welcome the choice of Newmont Ghana to invest in established systems to effect change” he added.

Adiki Ayitevie, Regional Vice President Responsible for Sustainability and External Relations at Newmont Ghana, expressed the organization's commitment to support the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals, hence this strategic investment in education through the partners.

"A major foundation block of our CSR Strategy is working collaboratively with like-minded partners towards its successful implementation. We realise that advancing the SDGs takes collaboration and partnership, which aligns with our focus on SDG 17-Partnerships for the Goals", she noted.

Dignitaries at the signing also included Board Chairperson of Newmont Ghana, Madam Joyce Aryee.
