One seriously injured in motorcycle crash at Dzorwulu junction

Two unidentified men on a motorcycle have been involved in a near fatal motor accident at Dzowulu Junction on the NI highway here in Accra, leaving one seriously injured.

The two men allegedly rammed into a commercial minibus parked at a bus stop around Fiesta Royal Hotel, leaving one of them extremely wounded, while causing damages to the affected vehicle.

The conductor of the bus affected recounted that, going about their normal duties as a commercial transport vehicle (Trotro), they parked at the next available bus stop to scout for passengers when suddenly the motorcycle run into their car from behind.

“Just within a minute of us parking here to get passengers I saw the motor approaching our bus and then we heard a loud bang. My master asked me what the matter was, and I told him the motor just crushed into our car,” he said.

He added that “When we went to check what had actually happened, we saw that there were two people on the motorcycle and the one without a helmet was excessively bleeding and unconscious while our rear glass was shattered due to the impact. The rider of the motor, because he had a helmet was barely injured as he got back on his feet engaging us in a conversation”.

As at the time of the report, there was no police present at the scene.

The injured man was however conveyed in a taxi to the hospital for treatment.

The issue of road accidents which has always been a matter of great concern to several Ghanaians has in recent times become uncomfortably incessant, a situation the government has said needs urgent attention.

In a report on myjoyoline, the Motor Transport and Traffic Directorate (MTTD) of the Ghana Police service, revealed that about six people die daily in road accident in the country, a very alarming revelation at that.

The report suggested that the Head of Education, Research and Training at the MTTD, DSP Mr Alexander Obeng who made the revelation named irresponsible driving as the main reason for rise in road accidents.

Earlier this year, government announced that, in an attempt to control the spate of road accidents in the country, approved an action plan which includes the allocation of about GH¢335 million per year to make available road signs and markings for over a three-year period.
