Prices of foodstuff continue to decline days to Xmas

Prices of some foodstuff continue to drop as the yuletide approaches. At the end of the third week in December, Tomato recorded the highest drop in price by 12 percent, to close the week at 8 cedis 90 pesewas per ‘medium size tomato tin.”

This was followed by Soyabean and Yam, which dropped by 6 percent each to close the week at GHc 5.80 and 3.90 per “olunka and medium size tuber” respectively.

Cowpea, Groundnut, Maize and Millet followed with a percentage point loss each to close the week at GHc 7.70, 12.90, 3.80 and 4.90 respectively. Prices remained the same for all other commodities.

On the various markets, the price for an “olunka” of maize gained 8 percent in Bawku to close the week at GHc 2.70 and dropped by 13 percent in Dambai to close the week at GHc 3.50; in the other markets, the price remained the same.

A “medium size tomato tin” full of fresh tomatoes lost 21 percent in Accra to close the week at GHS 14.30, with Techiman losing 6 percent to close at GHS 5.30.

In Takoradi and Dambai prices dropped by 20 and 22 percent to close the week at GHS 14.40 and GHS 5.00 respectively. The commodity however made some gains in Bawku and Kumasi.

In Bawku, it gained 7 percent to close the week at GHS 9.60 and gained a percentage point in Kumasi to close the week at GHS 6.40. In the other markets, the price remained the same.
