Prospective investor for Akwatia Diamond Company

Akwatia (E/R), March 31, GNA- An investor has expressed interest in the sale of the Ghana Consolidated Diamonds (GCD) Limited at Akwatia in the Kwaebibirem of the Eastern Region. The investor, whose name was not disclosed, is said to have pledged 34 million dollars for the company.

The Kwaebibrem District Chief Executive, Mr Yaw Yiadom-Boakye, announced this at the durbar of the chiefs and people of Akwatia to climax this year's celebration of the "Denkyembuo" (Diamond) festival at Akwatia last Saturday. Mr Yiadom-Boakye said officials of the company were expected in the country shortly for the take-over. He said contract for the supply of electricity under the Urban Five projects to improve the street lighting system at Akwatia and as well the extension of power to other communities has been completed.

Mr Yiadom-Boakye said the three-kilometre road from Boadua to Akwatia which was in very deplorable state would be reconstructed and tarred under the HIPC programme. He said work on a health centre at Nkwakwaakrom Number Four, near Akwatia, would also begin next month.
