Provide financial assistance to youth for self-employment – Kofi Akpaloo

Hundreds of educated youth in Ghana are still unemployed for various reasons in the country. The government has revealed it cannot create jobs for all of them both in the public and private sectors with security analysts indicating it may create socio-political tensions if the situation persists.

A typical example is recent Immigration services recruitment exercise where over 84,000 Ghanaian youth have to queue under the scorching sun for only 500 job openings they say it a is a clear manifestation of youth joblessness situation in the country that requires immediate attention.

In the light of this, the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) is suggesting to government to ask all the banks to give credit facilities in the form of loans to unemployed educated youths in the country to start their own self-employment activities such as poultry, fishery, dairy, commercial animal husbandry, horticulture and floriculture in rural areas and event management, facilities management, computer service centres, internet services, language and computer training centres and a host of modern services which are on high demand in urban areas.

“The government should guarantee for loans up to GH¢250, 000. Appropriate procedures must be formulated to make them repay the loans in instalments. This scheme will encourage enterprising, educated youth to develop self-confidence in generating income for themselves. The government should also help them in marketing their products by organizing appropriate marketing facilities”, founder of the LPG Kofi Akpaloo disclosed.

According to him, the greatest gift a government can give its citizens is an opportunity that will enable them to survive adding that such gifts may be good education as well as jobs and credit facilities for business starters.

“Therefore, the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) is asking the current Ghana government to help the unemployed educated youth to get bank loans to start their own businesses”, he added.
