STANDCHART joins Western Union Money Transfer

Accra, Sept. 12, GNA- The Standard Chartered Bank (STANDCHART) on Friday formally joined the Western Union Money Transfer Family in Accra. There are already four agencies namely Agricultural Development Bank (ADB), Ecobank, Ghana Post, Global Access operating the service in the country. The Trust Bank will join the operation in the first week of October.

The service, which started in May this year, is operational in six branches in Accra. They are Tudu, Dansoman, Spintex Road, Abeka, Tema and Ring Road branches of the bank.

Mr Ebenezer Essoka, Managing Director of STANDCHART, in a speech read for him, said the bank started offering money transfer services as a result of an intensive research into customers' expectations.

He said the research indicated that customers were looking for a reliable money transfer service from a service provider that is more efficient, trustworthy and convenient.

Mr Essoka said the bank will be offering Western Union Money Transfer at Harper Road and Kejetia in Kumasi, and at Techiman and Takoradi, adding the branches up to 10 throughout the country. He said they joined the union with the aspiration to link people with their relations with the aim of bringing hope and fulfilment to their lives.

The Managing Director said he hoped that by joining the Western Union, money transfer service would improve the stock of foreign exchange that is required to move the country forward.

Mr Kofi Fume, Senior Manager In-Charge of Marketing, said they have seen the benefits of operating Western Union money transfer in the country.

He said the Western Union remains the most prominent and efficient because they are customer centred and are always finding ways to make things more comfortable for their customers.

Mr Fume said the benefits of remittances cannot be over emphasised and commended Western Union International for linking people to their loved ones, thereby making life easier for their customers.

He explained that customers do not have to open an account with the bank before transacting Western Union money transfer business with it. Mrs Afua Tsegah, a long-standing customer of the bank launched the service after which she received her remittance sent through the bank. There are presently 127 outlets where customers can receive Western Union Money Transfer service at any of the six agencies. 13 Sept. 03
