Accra, Oct.1, GNA - The Food and Drugs Board (FDB) has announced the closure of facilities at the Sultan Water Company, producers of Sultan "Pure water" in Accra. A statement issued in Accra on Friday and signed by Mr Leonard Klogo of the Communications Department of the FDB, said the Company has been instructed to retrieve its products on the market to safeguard public health and safety. The statement said the Board had taken the step because the Company was not able to implement recommendations made to it to improve its operations.
In a related development, the FDB has also expressed concern about the presence of some food products on the market, which did not conform to either the general labelling rules L.I. 1541 (1992) or the Food Labelling requirement of 1985. The labels of the food products included Mentos Confectionery, Poult Biscuits, and alcoholic beverages including Charmbord, Champignon de Pom, Las Maison, Ter Choix.
Others included canned drinks that did not carry essential information on the products such as Best Before Date, Expiry Date, Batch Number, Date of Manufacture, Country of Origin and Conditions of Storage. The Board advised the general public to look out for these essential information since they gave indication about the safety of any food product.
