Takoradi port repositions as dominant oil and gas hub

The Port of Takoradi has taken a giant step towards achieving its quest to becoming the dominant oil and gas services hub in the West African region.

This follows the completion of an export gas manifold and a suction pile which were constructed at the Takoradi port fabrication yard for Tullow Oil Ghana Limited.

Principal Public Affairs Officer at the Port of Takoradi, Peter Bediako, said the export gas manifold and the suction piles would be used at the TEN and jubilee oil fields to harness the gas from these fields which would be piped onshore to be used for electricity generation.

The construction of the export gas manifold, according to him was done solely by Ghanaians.

Hitherto, the export gas manifold would have been imported from outside and would have cost the nation hugely.

He said since 2007 when oil was discovered in commercial quantities offshore Cape Three Points, the Takoradi Port became the main strategic base for the oil and gas industry in Ghana.

When GPHA’s EyeOnPort visited the Port of Takoradi, workers were busily working on the Tullow gas suction piles ahead of its transfer onboard a special vessel to be sent to the TEN and Jubilee Fields.
