'Their legacy will not be forgotten' - Asanko Gold joins nation in mourning after helicopter crash

Mining company Asanko Gold Ghana Ltd has joined the nation in mourning the eight public officials who tragically lost their lives in the August 6, 2025 helicopter crash near Adansi Brofoyedru in the Ashanti Region.

In a statement issued on Thursday August 7, 2025 the company expressed deep sorrow over the accident, which claimed the lives of senior government ministers, security officers, and public servants on an official mission.

“We are deeply saddened by the tragic helicopter crash that claimed the lives of senior government ministers and other dedicated public servants who served our country with dedication and honour,” Dr Charles Amoah, Executive Vice President and Managing Director of Asanko Gold Ghana Ltd said.

The company extended its heartfelt condolences to the families and colleagues of the deceased, highlighting their commitment to addressing some of Ghana’s most pressing challenges.

“Their commitment to addressing critical issues facing Ghana, including environmental protection and national security, exemplifies the spirit of public service,” Dr Amoah noted.

Among those who perished in the crash were the Ministers for Defence and Environment, the Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, Deputy Director-General of NADMO, the Ghana Armed Forces, and the opposition National Democratic Congress.

Asanko Gold, which operates in the mining-heavy Ashanti Region, expressed particular solidarity with the nation during this period of grief.

“During this difficult time, our thoughts and prayers are with all Ghanaians as we mourn this significant loss. We stand in solidarity with the people and Government of Ghana as we reflect on the lives and service of those we have lost,” the company said.

The company said it would continue to be guided by the example of integrity and service demonstrated by the departed leaders.

“The legacy of service demonstrated by these leaders will not be forgotten, and their dedication to our country serves as an inspiration to us all,” the statement concluded.

The crash has sparked a wave of national mourning, with tributes pouring in from political parties, corporate Ghana, civil society, and international partners.
