Vice President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur has commended participants at the 2nd forum on the implementation of the Single Spine Pay Policy (SSPP) for their insightful contributions to the process.
He said the consultations and convergence views from contributors would help in the implementation of the recommendations made at the meeting.
Vice President Amissah-Arthur was speaking at the closing of the 2nd National Forum on the Implementation of the Single Spine Pay Policy at Takoradi, in the Western Region.
The two-day forum was organized by the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations in conjunction with the Ministry of Finance and its Social Partners.
Participants at the meeting were expected to review the implementation of the SSPP with special focus on the recommendations from the Ho Forum in August 7, 2013 and to agree on strategies for the implementation of the second phase, which focuses on linking pay to productivity in the public sector.
Vice President Amissah-Arthur also hinted that the Minister of Employment and Labour Relations has to present the recommendations made at the forum to cabinet for it to be endorsed before it can be implemented.
He reiterated the call for organized labour and other social partners to negotiate for improvement in employment levels as well as calling for improved working conditions.
He said they must give opportunities to young people who are coming up, to benefit from the public service employment.
Mr Kofi Asamoah, the Secretary General of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) re-emphasized the commitment of the union to the efficient and effective implementation of the SSPP.
He expressed the belief of Organized Labour to ensure that the recommendations made at the forum were collectively implemented.
He said the TUC also has a responsibility to ensure that all post implementation issues, which are detected, are given the attention that it deserves.
Mr Terrence Darko, the President of the Ghana Employers Association (GEA), noted that, the private sector was encouraged and gratified with the collaboration that they had with the other social partners.
He said the contributions from participants were brilliant and has helped the forum to put together a good communiqué.
Mr Haruna Iddrisu, Minister of Employment and Labour Relations was positive that all the social partners would commit themselves to the roadmap adopted in the communiqué.
He said the social partners and government collectively noted that, there were outstanding issues that needed to be dealt with expeditiously, which were related to the migration process.
He said government has agreed with representatives of Organized Labour and the Ghana Employers Association to form a post Forum Implementation Committee of seven members with two each from labour and employers, whiles the government is given three reps.
