We depend on the dollar so.makes sense to compare the cedi with it. 90% of what we rat and use are bought in dollars. Untill that trend changes the dollar would remain relevant to us.

what matters is the RATE (ie how FAST) at which the currency loses value to the dollar.

So let's say a country has 1400 CU to 1$, but this 1400 remains constant all the time, then that curreny is said to be STABLE and strong. On the other hand, say Ghana changes 13.00 Cedis to a dollar last week, then 13.5 this week then again 13.85 next week, then the RATE at which the cedi is changing (losing value) makes it weak.

To understand it: 149.2 Yen = 1US$, and 13.5GHC = 1US$, yet the Yen is stronger and stabler than the GHC
