I'm even surprised Ghana is so much into combustion engines which is being phased out in the countries where these assembly plants are coming from.

The big issue is that those who really have money to buy new cars will buy from abroad - no matter what. And with more than 60% of people earning less that 250$ a month, you shouldnt expect them to buy on credit.
They should have allowed just TWO companies and plus import of 2nd hand ones.

VW should have ascertain how many people in Ghana are able to afford New Vehicles given the salary ranges and the cost of living coupled with the galloping exchange rate between the Cedi and the Dollar. 6000 is even a good number; they should be happy with that. The majority of Ghanaian can only afford second-hand cars, so that ban on second-hand cars will never happen. Neither should Ghanaians be forced into debt because they want to drive cars. We're ok with the second hand cars if that is what keeps us out of debt. These so-called investors are only interested in enslaving us with debt just as they are doing in the electricity sector. Let the people of Ghana live within their means. People survived debt-free when there were no cars. Don't use new cars to trap us in Debt. If its not working for you, Pack and Go. These people think we are fools. They knew why they came to built a plant here to produce those cars, even JSS studen knows that how many people will be buying these products . They had a plan A and producing the cars is just a plan B just as most of the western multinational companies. They always come to fool our eyes. When they come for instance with their eyes on our gold to smuggle will often come as something else or if they want to wash their monies. A big company like that should have done their visibility studies before involving millions of dollars in investment, they knew their market strengths before investing, there is no way moreover how many people will they be employing as compare to what they might be carrying out. Some of these things that makes our monies to keep attracting low exchange rates. There are a lot that needed to be weeded out before our economy can be strong. Bold and concerted actions are needed.

None of the comments I have read gave a rough idea the cost of the VW locally assembled cars.
I deslike traders who can display a good estimate of their prices. "Call for quote" signals lack of transparency and many avoid.
