Alas long haul flights from say Germany, UK France and the USA will not be arriving at Kumasi International Airport anytime soon because the proposed runway extensions would be way too short for the most commonly used long haul aircraft :1.Dreamliner runway length 2600 to 2800 m long. 2.Airbus A330 minimum runway length of 2500m. 3.Airbus A350; runway take off 2600m, Boeing 777 minimum take off distance 2500m etc. Only smaller aircraft from the West African or Central African regions could fly directly to Kumasi without a stopover somewhere. Even the smaller newer Boeing 737max10 requires 2530m minimum take off distance.
Interestingly Tamale Airport has a much longer runway.
