It cannot be because of increase in building materials cost but rather urbanisation. If not then rent in Accra should be cheaper than Kumasi since building materials like cement and iron rods are produce there so they pay less transport cost. Kumasi has developed so demand for accommodation is outpacing supply.
The solution is building more affordable houses and less land acquisition cost.

Affordable houses, who builds that? Since the days of KFour, there hasn't been any affordable house. Affordable is a house which can be bought by any worker in Ghana . But what do we see ? Only the politicians and burgers are able to afford it.If possible move out of the city, buy land far from the city, build your two bed rooms with toilet, bath and kitchen , forget about sitting room .Do it little by little. No government will build what we call affordable houses. Take charge of your own destiny .
