The dangerous precedent that has been set by Ghana with the gold purchase program has sent neocolonialist companies laughing all the way to the bank.
According to the constitution, the chiefs are custodians of the land and all the minerals belongs to the government in trust for the people. Simply translated, the people own the minerals. We turn around to license it to foreign companies to extract it from the ground and then spend our own money to buy it from them, our own gold. It is like someone stealing your iPhone and you go to circle to collect it after paying ransom.
Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah established the State Gold Mining Corp comprising of the mines at Tarkwa, Prestea, Dunkwaw and Konongo. We owned the mines and the gold which was deposited in the Bank of Ghana. The government must reestablish the State Gold Mining Corp.
All African governments must take absolute control of our minerals and exploit them for our own development instead of giving it away for free.
Burkina Faso has set the best precedent and all African governments must follow him
