Hmm the writer spoke of the rise and left out the fall of the Mall. Kingsway Shopping Mall was part of United African Company (UTC) started in the Colonial era. It was later on acquired by the Lever Brothers under the umbrella of Unilever.

UTC with Kingsway collapsed in 1987 in the era of PNDC due to price and currency regulations hence economy downturn

Malls are shopping centres where different entities acquire alloted floors or spaces to market their specific goods and services. Another huge supermarket in Ghana and Nigeria etc was UTC (Union Trading Company). They also had branches in various parts of the country.

I know the Kingsway Store in Kumasi was never a mall. It was a supermarket; the premises are currently being used by Opoku Trading. The interior space is not really a big one to warrant being referred to as a mall.
