Talking about high rent as if they are not in Ghana. Aren't they aware of the cost of building materials in the country? No body's fried chicken can be given to a crying child. Those are others form of investment. Whiles others are buy luxurious cars, chains and investing in their stomachs and women some have sacrificed to save or risk in taking loans at high interest rates to build.
Change your life styles or else go for accommodation from the government. Spare parts are equally exorbitant and transportation of building materials to sites. The most expensive materials are the CEMENT and IRON rods.
If there is any control prices, control them before you can talk of rent.

If it's about the cost of building materials then a whole set of solutions have to be found between government and builders to significantly reduce cost.

Currently there are no incentives to serve the market for the lowest income bracket of the population at all. Therefore makeshift structures are sprouting up at every corner causing a whole shit load of new problems from sanitation to health to petty crime and more.

Is this another bunch of NPP scoundrels? I recall there was a noisy bunch that called themselves Unemployed Graduates Association or Ghana or a name like that during Prez Mahama's first administration. They dissolve into thin air soon after Mahama left and Akufo Addo took over. Now another group have suddenly realised that accommodation rent is very high.

While I do not have any problem with reasonable, well-meaning Ghanaians expressing their genuine concerns on any issue, we should not allow political party hoodlums play political games with the issues that confront many Ghanaians.

The government has not been able to determine the cost of foodstuffs, how do you expect the government to determine the cost of rent? It is legally left in the hands of tenants and landlords and their bargaining powers. It’s a free business area. Some tenants have been able to rent at very low cost and their tenants wants them to stay for long because of their bargaining power and their behavior as well. Stop disturbing Mahama with this nonsense.

In a democratic country government doesn’t determine the cost of rent in a private development. Owners of properties determine the rest due to the cost of building materials. When the property belongs to the government then it’s a different scenario. If you can’t afford the rent, then look for what you can afford. The government doesn’t own private properties to control the rent.
