However, given Rawlings' background doesn't preclude his daughter from calling out wrongs where they exist. Let's look at it from a different angle: if Zanetor were on the side of the private individuals who are destroying the economic lives of thousands of people who trade at this site, what would your position be?

I don't think you have a reason to hate Rawlings more than I do--or at least I once did. In fact, I used to hate him very much, and all my writings on Ghanaweb dragged his name into it. However, at a point after his death, I realized that none of our leaders who assumed power after him did any better than him, as crooked and wicked as he was. Dont punish children for the sins of their fathers.

If Rawlings was considered wicked and corrupt shall we not surmise that he was or had become a reflection of what we were or had become during his reign?? Look, the reality is that we needed a Rawlings to RESET Ghana when he did. We were hurtling to our collective "death" as a nation. Of course there was collateral (and I cannot justify any one incident) but imagine that you lived under conditions 10 times worse than the last 8 years of misrule, there was going to be a point of no return and if it wasn't Rawlings, someone more terrible would have reared his head. Rawlings as a man had many faults but we cannot make him the singular scapegoat of the typically indisciplined and avarice-crazed appetite of the Ghanaian. Many think the state or Government is somebody else's business; they forget they are primary contributors to it's actions and inactions. If we would like to live a sane, dignified and progressive life as GHANAIANS in a just society, we must be willing to pay the price in patriotism and discipline and make corruption an abomination. If we don't, history shall only repeat itself. Believe me there are MORE RAWLINGSES in the wings just waiting and we will NOT be able to stop them!! Whatever we are today is what all of us as a people wish it to be. The solution must begin from the individual and his home; live and lead by example and be the epitomy, the quintessence of what you wish to see your country become.
