Na lie. During the Akufo-Addo administration, NAFCO purchased all surplus harvest to constitute a national buffer stock.This was used to supply the school feeding program. During the 2024 campaign, Mahama promised to dismantle the national buffer stock program and rather give money directly to headmasters to purchase food items from local markets. This is what the government attempted to implement upon taking over in January. The results were catastrophic: corruption and inefficiency in school-level procurement; deteriorating school feeding outcome despite propaganda; and farmers unable to sell surplus harvest, which they would normally sell to NAFCO to replenish the national buffer stock. Now the government is going back to the system they attempted to to dismantle. The Ministers of Agriculture and Education have a lot to answer for.
