I sometimes wonder the utterances of some of these landlords. Some of the houses have been build for the past 10-20 years without any renovations or even painting, yet when they complain about high prices of building materials amounting to the hikes in rent.
If it's a newly built house, that will be a fair argument to make but not the houses were built at a time when prices were low.
Besides, he cannot evict anyone that day. I suspect he is an agent doing the video on behalf on the landlord

If it's a newly built house, that will be a fair argument to make but not the houses were built at a time when prices were low.

The landlord is absolutely right. Prices of building material keep going up daily. Building maintenance is not cheap. I rent my house for year. At the end of the year, every tenant that lived in the house have destroyed fittings and defaced painting. Twice, tenants have left my house without paying water bill. These are some of the challenges we face in Ghana as landlords. It is not possible for Rent Control to control rents in Ghana for a simple reason. Rent Control has not determined what people at Cantonment, Ridge, East Legon and other areas in the country. So take me to Rent Control and let us see long a tenant can still remain in house.
