The BoG is right. Restoration would mean reverting to the state of rot that necessitated the revocation in the first place. Revocation is dead and moot and only a fresh license application meeting all the liquidity and qualit ...

The BoG is right. Restoration would mean reverting to the state of rot that necessitated the revocation in the first place. Revocation is dead and moot and only a fresh license application meeting all the liquidity and quality of asset thresholds can be entertained. Question is, if GN's license is restored would GN also insist on its customers who have been settled with other banks to save their deposits being returned to them. Which depositor would want to return. Once bitten twice shy the axiom goes. We are a country yet to learn where and what not to play politics with.

Nobody connected with the directorship of GN can apply for a new licence. Nobody. BoG said. That means non of Ndoun's family members will be issued with a new licence. Quite rightly so. End of Story.

So the revocation of GN Bank's license was not politically motivated after all, but rather a prudent decision anchored in our laws and the constitution. We should always be truthful to ourselves because the behaviour of those who were involved in the banking crises during that time should have sent them to jail, but because of stinking politics that cover up for those we like and leave those we don't like to dry, so many criminals are walking free when they should be in jail.
