  His so-called argument is hollow. Why do we have to experience a ban on such imports before calling a meeting of tomatoes stakeholders?

  This minister does not know anything about farming or tomato farming in particular. This month, March, is the month to prepare the land for planting crops because normal farming (starting with planting) starts now.
  The minister is daft to tell us stakeholders are going to meet to discuss tomato shortage in the country.
  I want to know what he knows about the variety of crops which feed Ghanaians everyday. And whether he knows what percentage we grow and what we import. From where do we import these foodstuff? He ,Eric, knows nothing. I would ask him to consult an expert in agriculture, I mean farming. Because you do not sit in an air-conditioning office and insult Ghanaians. Because when NDC was leaving office in January 2017 this problem was there. Sadly, no minister had the vision to consider this dangerous dependence on foreign markets for one of the most favoured vegetable/fruit in our stews and soups. It was only when our northern neighbour prohibited the export of tomatoes so that they could have adequate supply to feed their new tomato factories that we felt the need to prepare to discuss our lack of focus and vision.
  This is because the politicians have thought that we could eat gold. The government has no policy or plan on our food security because they have always thought that farmers will always produce what we needed. But the government( NDC) by its poor education policy, has managed to "breed" lazy and drug-addicted youth who do want to work on the farms. They prefer to hide in ghettos and smoke marijuana and drink ogogro and get very high and eat like pigs. They are not productive. But there is no intervention from the health and security departments. While we have arable lands ,from the north to the south we have no labour.
  Unless we rethink our national policies and focus on what we eat and drink there will serious famine and shortages in the country in the near future.
