GoldBod rewards NACOC with GH¢12.65 million for gold seizure operation

The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has presented GH¢12.65 million to the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) as a reward for its role in the seizure of 17 gold bars linked to illicit gold trading activities in 2025.

The amount represents 50% of the proceeds from the sale of the seized gold, in line with GoldBod’s reward policy aimed at encouraging intelligence-led enforcement and protecting Ghana’s gold resources.

In a post made on X on July 15, 2026, the Chief Executive Officer of GoldBod, Sammy Gyamfi, explained that 10% of the proceeds was allocated to the informant whose credible information led to the successful operation.

He added that the GoldBod Board of Directors approved an additional 20% for NACOC officers involved in the operation in recognition of their courage and sacrifice.

The remaining 20% was awarded to NACOC as an institution for providing the personnel and resources needed to execute the operation.

“20% for the NACOC officers who risked their lives during the operation, while the remaining 20% was awarded to NACOC as an institution for deploying its personnel and resources,” the GoldBod CEO stated.

Receiving the cheque on behalf of NACOC, Director-General of the Commission, Major General Maxwell Obuba Mantey, praised GoldBod for honouring its commitment and reaffirmed the Commission’s readiness to deepen collaboration with the Board in tackling illegal gold trading.

The reward forms part of GoldBod’s broader efforts to promote cooperation with state security agencies, encourage credible reporting, and strengthen measures to curb illicit activities within Ghana’s gold sector.

GoldBod said the initiative reflects its commitment to safeguarding the country’s gold resources for the benefit of current and future generations.
