The long rambling statement about Valco and GIADEC does not point out that the original objective of Valco was to develop Ghana's Bauxite into Aluminium. In fact the main justification for the Vvolta Project was to produce abundant inexpensive electricity for the conversion of Bauxite into Aluminium. Since 1965 when the Kaiser Aluminium Smelter was installed as principal component of the Bauxite- to - Aluminium process, the role of Bauxite has.been completely left out. The various Governments don't even mention it. Otherwise why are we not including arrangements for mining our Bauxite and transporting it to Tema; or conversely arranging to locate the Smelter Component near the.Bauxite Mines at Awaso. Will somebody clarify the situation. Are we implying that we have discarded the original plan to Industrialise Ghana.
